GB Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR)


Background:


Cardiff was the location for the 2011 Wheelchair Rugby GB Cup with Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) playing host to an international event in the build up to the 2012 Paralympic Games.

GBWR were joined by some of the world's top wheelchair rugby players when Australia, Belgium, Japan and Sweden descended on Cardiff from Tuesday 6th September to Thursday 8th September.  The tournament held at the Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff was the highest-level of competition the squads play before the Paralympics in 2012.

JacBee were the official Event Management company co-ordinating and delivering on key aspects of the event including:

  • Coordination of the event preparation and delivery of the event in line with GBWR financial policies and within the designated event budget
  • Planning, organisation and administration of the event through the establishment of a timeline and project plan
  • Management of the venue plan and overlay of the event; supporting GBWR through the successful tender, and management of event contractors and Wheelchair Rugby specific requirements
  • Development and delivery of an opening and closing ceremony and VIP reception, incorporating the determined protocol and medal presentation
  • Recruitment, training and deployment of the required sport specific and general volunteers in partnership with Sport.Cardiff
  • Establishment and administration of an entry and accreditation system
  • Planning and delivery of safety and security requirements
  • Liaison with identified accommodation provider, tendering and securing a transport provider and ensuring catering and similar requirements were delivered for athletes, officials and VIPs
  • Preparation of medical provision for site (including competition and accommodation venues).
